The Division of Nephrology Transplant and Transplant Surgery at The Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University are seeking applicants for Transplant Nephrologist to assist in expanding the kidney and kidney pancreas transplant program. We are the only transplant center outside of metropolitan Atlanta and serve east and southern/central Georgia in addition to South Carolina. The Medical College of Georgia is the only state sponsored medical school in the state of Georgia and one of the largest schools in the country.

The Transplant Nephrologist should hold a MD or DO degree from an accredited institution, completed an accredited Nephrology Transplant Fellowship Program and be board certified or board eligible in Nephrology.

The Transplant Nephrologist will assist the current transplant surgeons, transplant nephrologists, transplant pharmacist, transplant nurses, nurse practitioners and ancillary staff in providing exceptional care to our kidney and kidney-pancreas transplant candidates and recipients.

MCG works actively to promote living donation, has an active paired donation program and has an extensive outreach program in several rural Georgia and South Carolina communities. The Transplant Nephrologist will also be expected to participate in clinical and translational research in transplantation by assisting in planning and implementation of research protocols with the goal to expand our current research endeavors. The current areas of interests at MCG are chronic allograft nephropathy, management of sensitized patients, post-transplant and malignancies management after transplant, immune tolerance, immune assessment, immune-modulation and literacy in health care outcomes in transplantation.

Although not required, candidates with established research experience are encouraged to apply as there are ample opportunities for collaboration with a dedicated team studying immune tolerance mechanisms. MCG has exceptional core research facilities and laboratory space.

MCG kidney transplant program began in 1968 as the only Georgia transplant center outside of metropolitan Atlanta and it has been maintaining this role for over 50 years. The program serves a 2 state catchment area and pancreas transplantation was added in 1994. Between 80 to 100 kidney transplants and 6-8 kidney-pancreas transplants are performed at MCG annually with over 1200 candidates on the kidney waiting list. There are currently 2 transplant surgeons and 4 transplant nephrologists and an AST approved transplant nephrology fellowship is in place.

The Medical College of Georgia has a long history of clinical and educational excellence. MCG is an EEO/AA equal access employer and is a growing state supported academic medical center located in an historic city. Augusta, the home of the Masters Golf tournament, is a superb place to live with remarkably low cost of living.

To apply, send applications to Laura L. Mulloy, DO Vice Chair for Clinical Development and Faculty Affairs, Chief of Nephrology, Department of Medicine, Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University 1120 15th Street Augusta, Georgia.
