Client company seeks an experienced litigation lawyer with a broad litigation background (substantive legal issues, proceedings, and venues) for its Atlanta office. The position is responsible for managing cases and disputes, primarily general liability, product liability, and auto liability claims and lawsuits and other insured risk matters, from inception to trial and appeal or settlement, and collaborates with outside counsel on case strategies and budget management. The successful candidate must be able to identify and lead litigation strategies. The position will focus primarily on domestic matters, with occasional opportunities to work on non-U.S matters. The position reports to the Law Vice President for Litigation. There are no direct reports.
Key Areas of ResponsibilityProvide strategic counseling to clients on matters related to existing litigations and disputes, litigation avoidance, and otherwiseLead internal investigationsCounsel clients on proactive measures to reduce and control legal exposureResponsible for case budgets and forecasts and management of outside counsel in compliance with Outside Counsel Billing GuidelinesRole in corporate risk review process, tied to accounting and disclosure responsibilitiesDevelop strong, strategic relationships with clientsCoordinate with insurers and third party administrators to manage insured claims and lawsuitsRepresent client company in mediationsManage electronic discovery aspects of casesWork directly with vendors on negotiation of contracts and management of support
Basic QualificationsJuris Doctor degree from an accredited law school5+ years of related experience in a law firm, which must include hands-on litigation experience, preferably including substantive roles in trials or arbitrationsKnowledge of privilege issues relevant to in-house practiceExcellent judgment and ability to work independently, including demonstrated ability to be a self-starterStrong negotiation skillsSuperior legal and business writing skillsExcellent oral communication skillsFamiliarity with electronic discovery protocols and litigation technologyAbility to manage large number of outside counselAbility to conduct and direct legal researchWilling to learn in a fast-paced environment, and on a large number of matters at any given time; the workload is substantial and the pace is demandingMember of the Georgia bar or be eligible to practice as an in-house attorney in Georgia
